Met Éireann has issued a yellow rain warning for 14 counties on Thursday.
A warning has been issued for all of Connacht, Munster, Cavan, Donegal, and Longford from 6 am until 8 pm on Thursday.
Met Éireann has warned of localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions.
Wednesday will see scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle, most persistent in the west and north.
There will be longer dry spells in the east and south with occasional bright breaks. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees in moderate to fresh southerly winds.
Wednesday night will see outbreaks of rain becoming widespread once again.
The rain will turn heavier in the west and southwest by morning. Another mild night with lowest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees.
Thursday will be wet and blustery with widespread heavy rain, possibly leading to localised flooding.
Southerly winds will increase fresh and gusty through the day, strong at times near coasts. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees.
