Sligo Garda Armed Support Unit base being considered.

Active consideration is being given to a Garda Armed Support Unit base in County Sligo.

The North Western Region is currently serviced by Armed Support Units based in Galway, Ballyshannon, Cavan and Dundalk with support from local and national units.

However, in correspondence from the Justice Minister to Fine Gael Cllr Thomas Walsh, it's been confirmed that Garda authorities are actively considering a base to be situated in Sligo.

Cllr Walsh believes that this is a hugely positive development and a first step in getting a base established in the County.
