Galway — Gardaí have detained a man in Salthill following an incident that led to the deployment of the Garda Armed Support Unit.
The incident unfolded yesterday, prompting a swift response from local gardaí who requested armed backup as a precaution. The Armed Support Unit (ASU), which is tasked with handling high-risk operations, attended the scene to ensure public safety.
The man was taken into custody and is currently being questioned in relation to the matter. Gardaí have not yet disclosed the nature of the incident or whether any weapons were involved, but they confirmed that no injuries were reported.
A Garda spokesperson said:
“Gardaí in Galway responded to an incident in the Salthill area which required the deployment of the Armed Support Unit. One male was detained at the scene and investigations are ongoing.”
The presence of armed gardaí in the popular seaside suburb drew attention from onlookers, though the operation was resolved quickly.
At this stage, no charges have been confirmed. Gardaí say inquiries are continuing.
