A Dublin man accused of stabbing a Garda in July has now been charged with arson at Conor McGregor’s Black Forge Inn and with engaging in terrorist-related activity linked to both incidents.
Abdullah Khan, 23, from north Dublin, appeared at Cloverhill District Court on Wednesday for his fifth hearing since his initial arrest. He has not yet applied for bail.
Khan was first arrested on July 29th following a stabbing incident on Capel Street, in which a probationary Garda sustained non-life-threatening injuries while on high-visibility patrol. He was initially charged with assault causing harm and possession of a Tactix knife capable of serious injury.
During Wednesday’s hearing, Khan faced five new charges, including:
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) directed that Khan’s case be tried in the Special Criminal Court, reserved for terrorism and organised crime-related offences.
Khan did not respond to any of the new charges and has yet to enter a plea. He was remanded in custody and is due back in court in one week. Reporting restrictions on his address remain in place for public safety. Prosecutors are expected to take up to six weeks to complete the book of evidence before a trial order can be issued.
Khan appeared in court dressed in a grey tracksuit, consulting only with his solicitor Matthew de Courcy. There was no application for legal aid or bail at this stage.
