Garda appeal after shots fired into property with woman and two children in Limerick

Gardaí Appeal for Information After Shots Fired at Limerick Home

Gardaí are seeking witnesses following a gun attack on a home in Limerick where a woman and two children were present at the time.

The incident occurred around 2am on Tuesday when several shots were fired through the window of a house at a halting site off Childers Road. Fortunately, nobody was injured.

Armed Garda units attended the scene, and a forensic examination was carried out both inside and outside the property. The Defence Forces’ Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, based in Cork, was also called in to assist and later escorted away from the site by Gardaí. A Defence Forces spokesperson declined to comment, citing operational security.

Footage shared on social media showed a heavy Garda presence at the location, with the area sealed off by garda tape.

Appealing for public assistance, Sergeant Natasha Walsh of Henry Street Garda Station said:

“Gardaí are investigating a serious firearms incident that took place on Childers Road in the early hours of Tuesday morning. If you were in the area between midnight and 2am and saw anything unusual, please contact Gardaí. We also urge anyone with dashcam footage to get in touch with Henry Street Garda Station on 061-212400.”

Investigators are also examining potential links to another shooting at the same site on September 3rd, when gunfire broke out in the afternoon. On that occasion, dashcam video captured a man running across Childers Road while being chased by a group of males, some of whom appeared to be armed.

The recent spate of gun-related incidents has raised fears of a return to the violent feuding that gripped Limerick in the early 2000s. In response, Garda management has sanctioned additional overtime for armed patrols to cover known hotspots.

The surge in violence has included drive-by shootings, petrol bombings, pipe bomb incidents, and attacks on homes and vehicles. Some of the clashes have even been filmed and circulated on social media, with one video showing a man firing what appeared to be a semi-automatic weapon in a field.

Garda sources have warned that the firearms being used in these disputes pose a serious risk to public safety. Defence Forces EOD units have already been deployed several times this year to deal with suspected explosives across the city.
