Dublin man held on €400 cash bail after Glock handgun and ammo seizure

Dublin Man Charged Over Glock Seizure Held on Cash Bail

A Dublin man has been charged following the seizure of a Glock handgun and ammunition and has been granted cash bail.

Karl Donnelly, 34, of Newmarket Yards, Dublin 8, appeared at Dublin District Court on Tuesday evening facing firearms offences. He is accused of possessing a Glock semi-automatic pistol along with 25 rounds of 9mm ammunition, which were reportedly seized from his residence on Monday.

Judge John Hughes described the charges as “very serious” but noted that Donnelly has no previous convictions and no history of bench warrants. When charged at Irishtown Garda Station, Donnelly reportedly made no reply.

Represented by Kevin McCrave, instructed by solicitor Niall O’Connor, Donnelly’s defence highlighted that he is on social welfare and has mental health issues. While acknowledging the seriousness of the allegations, the barrister confirmed that Donnelly would comply with court-imposed conditions.

Judge Hughes set bail at €500, with €100 lodged in cash and an independent surety of €300 required. Conditions of release include adhering to a curfew, seeking Garda approval for any address changes, being contactable by phone, and signing on daily at a Garda station. Donnelly was remanded in custody subject to these terms and is due to appear again next week. Legal aid was granted, and a plea has not yet been entered.
